Agata ShapeShifters creates Modern and Elegant Gear Shift Knobs for your next Custom Build. I Hand Carve each one, ensuring that it is Unique and Tailored to your build.

I specialize in carving various stones such as alabaster and marble, my favorite being alabaster for its translucency and variation in color.

I can work hand in hand with you to create your own truly custom one of-a-kind gear shift knob. Here at Agata ShapeShifters it is just me. So the person you talk to is the same person making your custom product.

What I have here on the web site is just a small sample of what I can do for your next build. I can source specific stones based on your color choices and carve unique sculptural shifters to fit your design.

So consider what you see here to be a starting off point for endless possibilities.

MY PROCESS

My process starts with various sizes of responsibly sourced raw blocks of carving stone, mostly from Italy and the Mid West.  I purposefully do not deal with the “healing crystal” world of stones and gems and choose to carve all of my own shifters.

I cut down these larger blocks into smaller individual pieces and rough shape them with various tools depending on the stone and the shape.

The final surfacing is all done with various files and sand paper to dial in subtle surface changes and transitions.

A final sanding will make it ready for its’ 9, (4,4,1), hand brushed coats of durable non-yellowing epoxy.

Once cured, the epoxy gets wet sanded to 3,000 grit and a 3 stage mechanical cut and buff for that perfect finish and shine.

At this stage they are ready to be photographed and be seen. They are what I consider “blanks”.  They still need their hardware mounted, final coats of epoxy and a final round of cut and buff.

WHY DO I USE ALABASTER?

I use alabaster simply because I believe it is the most beautiful material Mother Nature has to offer. It can be a highly translucent stone with an enormous variation in color that always makes for something interesting and unique.

Just the right temp to work some stone…
